OUR STORY
In 2004, inspired by Chuck Bradford (’56), a group of his classmates and alumni from other classes formed the John Muir High School Alumni Association. The primary purpose of the Alumni Association is to support the academic and extracurricular activities and programs of John Muir High School (JMHS) and its students, financially and otherwise, and to foster the relationship with JMHS of the alumni of each of JMHS, John Muir Technical High School and John Muir Junior College and with each other, with a view to promoting pride within JMHS, the alumni and the surrounding community.

John Muir HIGH SCHOOL History
John Muir the naturalist visited Pasadena in 1913 and that same year the PUSD opened a new Junior High School on Walnut Street named it after him. Muir died the following year without ever visiting. The ornate classical building would suffer severe damage from the 1921 Long Beach earthquake

John Muir Technical High School
In fall 1926, John Muir Technical High School opened with modern industrial facilities, serving grades 11 and 12 under principal Rufus Mead. The school combined trade education with strong academics and adopted the Terrier as its mascot.
The original student-made “Tech Terrier” sculpture is now preserved in the Muir Alumni History Museum. The final Tech Terrier class graduated in June 1938.

Pasadena Junior College - West Campus
In 1938, John Muir Technical High School became Pasadena Junior College – West Campus, adopting the college’s colors and mascot.
Following Pearl Harbor and declining male enrollment during World War II, the West Campus was no longer needed. In 1942, the school closed and the campus was transferred to the military.

We want to help anyone in need, not just those under the roof of our church. Our latest initiative is to reach those in Toronto, forgotten or diminished by the harshness of life in a big city.
Homecoming at John Muir means coming home
Chicken Tussle, Turkey Tussle, Class Reunions to the Hall of Fame, Alumni Homecoming Fair, JMADA Drummers, and Alumni Pep Squad, Homecoming is more than a football game—it’s a Mustang Family Reunion!

Turkey Tussle Weekend Celebration!
For generations, Turkey Tussle has been
one of the most anticipated celebrations of the year. Our alumni classes play an important role in keeping this 78- year tradition alive by planning reunions around Homecoming Weekend.
